Types of Dementia
There are over 200 diseases that cause dementia. Here we look at the most common types and the symptoms they cause. Medication can slow down the progression but there’s still no cure.
Most Common Types
Alzheimer’s Disease
This is the most common type of dementia in the UK.
Vascular Dementia
This is the second most common type of dementia and is caused by problems in the supply of blood to the brain
Forntotemporal Dementia
This is a progressive condition and is more common in younger people aged 45 to 65.
Dementia with Lewy Bodies
This is a progressive condition affecting motor control.
Mixed Dementia
It is possible to have several types of dementia – usually Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia.
